The amount you tighten the nut (with or without the crush sleeve) is based on the amount of force measured in inch pounds it takes to rotate the pinion. (without the ring gear installed) WebOct 30, 2010 · If you are only replacing the pinion seal and not replacing any bearings or the crush spacer then torque the nut to 150 foot pounds and use red Locktite on it. This will not mess up the pinion bearing preload. If youa re replacing a bearing or the crush spacer then you have a bigger job ahead of you. Check the bearings.
